A Timeless Refresh: Design Trends for 2025 and Beyond

Our calendar pages have flipped… hello, 2025! As with every new year, 2025 is ringing in a lot of new (and not-so-new) design fads. But at Crest & Key, we’re not ones for chasing something shiny and new for the sake of shiny and new (...unless that shiny and new thing is a tasteful design touch, that is). We’re focused on narrowing in on the home renovation trends that have some serious staying power. Nothing gimmicky here.

So, it’s in that spirit we kick off the new year with a look at five design choices we feel are–regardless of current trendiness–timeless for nearly any space. If you’re planning a remodel this year, these picks should be at the top of your list.

Bring the Outdoors In With Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is the perfect interior style for plant parents, creating an oasis of natural elements and materials to wake up feeling truly connected to the outdoors. Image from Dezeen.

Much more than splashing a bit of green and brown around the room, biophilic design brings natural elements into your home in a beautiful and organic way. Eschewing firm boundaries between in and out, large sliding glass doors blur the line and spacious windows welcome a flood of natural light to pour into the space. All that light is a good thing, too, because living walls of natural greenery make for a gorgeous addition of local ecology into your home.

Biophilic design goes beyond all things natural and sunny, though. Far from sharp and modern edginess, furniture in a biophilic space embraces organic curves and soft lines. That design flow, combined with natural or reclaimed materials and a neutral palette (with some fun drops of Earth tones like a certain Pantone fav for 2025…) make biophilic design a choice that will remain timeless as other trends come and go.

Go Big With Elegant Maximalism

Minimalist, Scandinavian-esque design probably isn’t going anywhere, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for something a little… extra. With a mix of bold, luxurious colorwork, layers of textures, and striking use of different patterns, 2025’s most BOOMY design trend is definitely elegant maximalism.

It takes a deft hand (and we at Crest & Key are here for it), but combining these typically “loud” elements can truly create a true statement space. Textured walls and ceilings (another big 2025 trend in its own right), checkered floors and patterned wallpaper all add to the “more is more” mindset of the style. And the colors? Pure luxury. Deep burgundies, teals, caramels and more call back to an era of high design but with the modern sense of balance and taste (thankfully)..

Color drenching, a piece in the elegant maximalist pie, is also a strong statement for 2025. Let your inner color geek go wild by covering nearly every inch of a room in a single hue, creating a cozy-yet-moody environment that’s sure to stand the test of time. And since no color is really off the table (the one you choose could literally be on the table), this technique is also super flexible. Brighten up a room with a lighter, airier choice or add a dash of mystery with darker tones.

Get Zen With Wellness Spaces

Your home is your sanctuary, so it makes sense that an increased focus on crafting comforting spaces of wellness has taken hold on the design world. Many of these pockets of serenity rely on touches like plantlife, ample natural light, cool and calming palettes, and elegant, upscale materials such as marble.

While the term “wellness space” might conjure up images of spas and saunas (which definitely isn’t wrong!), the true beauty of wellness lies in its subjectivity and flexibility. Instead of a smaller wellness space tucked in a bathroom, maybe you want to incorporate sustainable and Earthy materials such as bamboo, cork, and jute into a living space. Or embrace the round with curvy rugs, rounded wall edges, and circular seating and furniture arrangements.

Develop a Taste For Mocha Mousse

We wouldn’t call all of Pantone’s Color of the Year picks timeless, but 2025’s couleur-de-l'année is a hit. Mocha Mousse, described by Pantone as nurturing with a “suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort”, is without question a timeless addition to any space.

Mocha Mousse can be incorporated into biophilic design (hello Earth tones), elegant maximalism (hello Mocha Mousse color drench), wellness spaces (hello desire for comfort), and inherently “feels” eco-friendly. Creating a full palette from the color is simple and stunning, too. Adding more Earth tones can add a bit of depth to a drench while mixing in splashes of soft greens and blues creates a landscape of comfort.

Pantone’s pick also blends seamlessly into furniture and accessory design. If you’re not ready to go all in on a color drench, throw pillows and accessories such as vases and candles featuring the hue are the perfect compromise. Looking for a slightly bigger impact? A Mocha Mousse statement rug will give your space an elegant and grounded foundation.

Experience Customized Artisan Elegance

It’s never been trendier to invest in intentional and artisan-quality design for your home. By forgoing the big boxes and quick buys, you can take the time to find the piece of furniture, addition, color scheme, or tiniest touch that perfectly fits your space and personality. Plus, working directly with an artisan makes your design process much more intimate. You’ll get to know every angle, wall, and inch of your space, making it that much sweeter once you take that first sit in the re-invigorated room.

What’s more, working with artisans makes it possible to reimagine current pieces in your space for the new design. With new upholstery, finishes, or even a new piece of statement furniture created from a repurposed staple, you can bring some of the classic into your new look.
